Fundraiser for Devon Shaw-A WGHS Student

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Starting on May 10-May 24(longer if needed). I will be donating 1/2 of your order in support of Devon Shaw. A freshman at Watkins Glen High school who was diagnosed with cancer in his right  knee, which has now metastasized to a lung. Since this will be a fundraiser through our web site no tax will be collected. Once the 2 weeks are up I will see where we are at and then write a check to Devon’s family to help off-set travel, lodging cost for his chemo and /or surgery or where ever they see fit to use it. You can read his story here: Devon’s Story.

Some of you may have seen on Face book that Country Keepsakes is doing a fundraiser for a local high school student. Please take time to read his story on the link above. I have always felt I wanted to help someone local-and this story nagged at my heart for weeks. I wasn’t quite sure how to go about it-so finally consulted with a teacher in the elementary school that had Devon when he was in First Grade. If you don’t feel the “need” to order something wouldn’t you be so kind to donate to this cause? I am putting a PayPal button here in this post for those that do not want to necessarily order something but would like to donate just the same. I am donating as I said above 1/2 of my sales for these 2 weeks, and any donations, I will include names of those that participate so that the family will know that it does not come just from “me” but from people that would like to help make a difference.

I have been told this is a wonderful thing I am doing; but it is only wonderful if we raise something to donate to the family. So I am asking for your help. Please take time to read his story. I feel he is a courageous young man and I believe in his life he will make a difference. I know he has to me. Your donation can be as small as $1.00 or as much as you would like “IF” you would like to donate but not necessarily place an order. I would also like to thank those that have already ordered, it is greatly appreciated. Without you, this fundraiser wouldn’t be possible.

Help a Friend with their Ferral Kittens

Monday, November 9th, 2009

Please take time to read the following article of one of my friend’s & her husbands struggle to help 5 ferral kitten…the link to see the pictures is at the end! Thank you for taking this time.

Becky

This Feral Kitten Saga began in our back yard in Greene, Maine, a couple months ago, when we began seeing a kitten or two – little guys, wandering around looking quite forlorn and helpless. Within the next couple weeks, we spotted FIVE kittens right around dusk, scrounging for fallen bird seed from our many bird feeders.

Being in Maine, we are heading intocold weather, and we couldn’t just stand by and watch these precious little kittens either starve or freeze to death. We were able to rent a”safe trap” from our local hardware store.

One by one, overabout 2 1/2 weeks, we were able to safely trap all 5 kittens. Hubbybuilt a “kitty condo” for them right here in our den. We have had somuch fun “socializing” them – we now close the door to the den and let them out to run around 2 or 3 times daily.

We already have aMaine coon cat (about 4 y.o.) who alternately loves them or hates them, depending on his mood (we got him from our local Humane Society about 2 years ago). We also have a black lab (about 9 y.o.) who doesn’t quite know what to think of the kittens – but she is more tolerant of them.

Our financial struggle now – hence this fund-raising effort – is that we need to get all these kittens to the vet (and actually need to update our current 2pets on their shots, etc., as well). My dear hubby has been unemployed for 8 months, since his company was downsized – I have only sporadic freelance income – AND we are both returning college students (online)in an effort to pursue new career options. Winter is fast approaching here in Maine, and heating season has already begun.

We would greatly appreciate any donations from animal lovers out there – as we fully understand the difficulties brought on by this present economic climate – and thank you ahead of time for your kind hearts towards these little kittens!
